Can aromatherapy work even if you can’t smell?

lulilashjnord asked:

My mom had a head injury a while back that resulted in her not being able to smell very well. Would she be able to get any benefits from aromatherapy if she can’t smell it? For instance, Lavender can help with depression. Would it help even if she can’t smell it?
My mom can only smell certain things. Would she get benefits from the things she can’t smell? Like, if she couldn’t smell Lavender, would it still help her relax?

Chinese Herbs & Aromatherapy for Infertility

There are many different causes of infertility in both men and in women. The primary source of infertility in men is a low sperm count. This can be due to constitutional and environmental factors. Chinese medicine can be used to increase circulation and body temperature, which may help improve sperm count. The same herbs that are used for this purpose may also improve a man’s sex drive and sexual performance. There are a number of factors involved in female infertility as well. A frequent cause of infertility is a blockage of the fallopian tube that prevents the sperm and the egg from meeting. Polycystic ovarian disease may also interfere with timely release of the eggs. Other gynecological health issues can also cause infertility such as endometriosis, salpingitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and chlamydia. At other times, there can appear to be no structural or physical condition that is causing the infertility. While Chinese medicine and aromatherapy cannot determine the physical factors causing infertility (diagnostic testing is required for that), they can often address some of the sources of infertility once the cause is discovered.

The Chinese herbs, Leonurus (Yi Mu Cao) and Siegesbeckia (Xi Xian Cao), when used together, have been shown to open up blocked fallopian tubes in clinical research studies done in China. The majority of women responded to treatment within 10 days. The blockages in these cases were due to thickening of the lining of the tubes, excessive mucous secretion, partial blockage with scar tissue, inflammation, or infection. One remedy that may work well to treat this condition in combination with Chinese herbs is the enzyme, serrapeptase. Serrapeptase breaks down scar tissue and cystic tissue in the body while promoting circulation.

For women suffering from polycystic ovarian disease, a number of herbs and essential oils may be useful. Saw palmetto berries are known to block the production of the type of testosterone known to cause the disease. Chasteberries may help reduce the tendency towards formation of ovarian cysts and help balance out a woman’s hormones. Cypress essential oil used externally may also reduce the formation of cysts. Generally, women with this condition often need to have Damp Heat cleared from the Lower Burner, in Chinese medicine terms. They often also suffer from Kidney Yin Deficiency, and from Qi and Blood Stasis in the Lower Burner.

For women whose mucous secretions kill their husband’s sperm, their could be a condition of excess congestion and acidity in the body that can be balanced out through dietary and lifestyle changes along with the use of herbs and essential oils. Changing the body’s chemistry through holistic means may increase the likelihood of conception.

There are also a number of essential oils that can help to balance out a woman’s hormonal and reproductive system while promoting fertility. Geranium, clary-sage, and rose essential oil all nourish a woman’s system and help to bring it back into homeostasis.

Many times, there is no diagnosable reason or cause for infertility. In these cases, Chinese medicine can be highly effective in bringing back a woman’s mind, body, and spirit into harmonious balance, making her more receptive to conception.

Chinese herbs can also be used to maintain a healthy pregnancy once conception has occurred. Certain herbs such as xu duan(teasel root) and tu si zi(cuscuta), have traditionally been used to discourage miscarriages and promote a healthy pregnancy. A certain percentage of miscarriages are unpreventable (25%) because they are triggered by genetic abnormalities in the fetus, but in other cases, herbs may help increase the probability of carrying a pregnancy through a full nine month term.

As you can see, there are a wide variety of ways in which Chinese Medicine and aromatherapy can be used to improve a couple’s likelihood of conceiving a child, while preparing the woman emotionally and physically for conception and pregnancy.

What is the best way to clean aromatherapy bowls?

Aromatherapy is a scented form of soothing and relaxation treatments. All different types of essential oils are used to achieve different degrees of aromatherapy. Essential oils are naturally occurring volatile oils that are obtained by cold expression or steam distillation. The oil will have the characteristically familiar aroma from the plant part from which it was derived.

These are 100% pure oils that have not been processed in any way. Essential oil diffusers have become very popular lately in dispensing these natural oil fragrances into the air. Aromatherapy uses essential oil diffusers to achieve its goal of gently diffusing essential oils into the air.

Types of Diffusers

There are several different types of diffusers on the market today. One of the popular styles for large public areas is essential oil fan diffusers. These diffusers use a fan to blow the oils into the air. This is done with essential oils being placed onto a disposable absorbent pad or put into a tray and then the pad or tray is placed into the unit and switched on. The fan will then blow air across the tray or pad and send the aroma throughout the room.

These are very effective essential oil diffusers. Electric heat essential oil diffusers are another good way to dispense the essential oils into the air. These are very popular in bathrooms and living areas and are more commonly known as plug-ins. These units contain tiny cartons of essential oil and are simply plugged into the wall.

A SpaScenter Essential Oil Diffuser has an oil drawer where you apply 20 drops of an essential oil onto a pad. You then turn on the SpaScenter to activate the air circulation and instantly enjoy the benefits of true aromatherapy. The SpaScenter allows you to adjust the strength of the diffuser with a simple turn of a button and can easily be changed to a different essential oil. The SpaScenter is extremely popular because it allows you to have a continuous subtle aroma climate for a long period of time.

Reed essential oil diffusers have become very popular today because they are more nature oriented and look very nice sitting in a living room or bedroom. There is no electricity or flame needed for a reed essential oil diffuser. The essential oil is placed in the diffuser and a reed is put into the oil. The fragrance basically travels up the reed and is dispersed throughout the room. The fragrance will last for months in one of these reeds.

Smokeabella asked:

I have ongoing back and side pain, and having been using ‘Deep Heat’ to help with it. I have been diagnosed as having Costocondiritis but am not exactly sure that this is correct, as I don’t have all the symptoms.
While the ‘Deep Heat’ has been fairly good, I would prefer a more natural method. Also I am unable to use any aromatherapy oils which can interfer with conception or pregnancy.
Thanks.

How to Use Aromatherapy Microwavable Booties

Aromatherapy microwavable booties are becoming the latest trend when it comes to finding a way to relax and unwind. Designed with soothing and relaxation in mind, aromatherapy microwavable booties may look a little strange, but you’ll find your stress leaving as the heat and scent do their work.

To enjoy these products, simply microwave for 30 seconds to 60 seconds, depending on the instructions, then slip onto your feet. If you suffer from dry feet, consider rubbing some lotion in before placing your feet into the aromatherapy microwavable booties.

If you have a preference for moist heat, over dry, simply lightly spray the aromatherapy microwavable booties with water before placing into the microwave. This has an added advantage of helping to preserving the freshness of any herbs used in the booties.

It is important not to overheat the product. This can result in the fabric burning, burns to the skin and will destroy any of the herbal contents contained in the booties. The smell of burnt fabric and herbs is definitely not relaxing!

An added advantage to the aromatherapy microwavable booties is that they can double as an ice pack. Simply place into a plastic bag and then put into the freezer for 1 – 2 hours. Once removed from the freezer, the aromatherapy microwavable booties will remain cold for up to 45 minutes. Storing your aromatherapy microwavable booties in the fridge or freezer will also extend the life of the scents used in the booties.

If aromatherapy microwavable booties interest you, but you want a set that are tailor made, consider making your very own pair. Simply create a slightly larger bootie than required out of your desired material (polar fleece or flannel is a good choice), and then make a second, slightly smaller bootie insert.

Begin by filling the larger bootie with your desired wheat, grain or rice (to which you have added herbs or essential oils), before inserting the smaller one. Continue to fill with the desired filling, leaving a 2 – 3cm gap so that you can sew the material closed. Repeat the process, and you have your own tailor made aromatherapy products.

Remember that aromatherapy microwavable booties aren’t generally made to be walked in. The grains and herbs contained inside will be crushed if weight is placed on them, making them far less effective. To clean your aromatherapy microwavable booties, simply sponge down with a damp cloth and leave them to dry.
